Frequently Asked Questions
I see you're from Texas. Is it true everything's big there?
Absolutely. Big hair, big mouths, big egos, big trucks. But I have only two of the four. That's because I was raised in Oklahoma.
You've written as Jane Graves and as Jane Sullivan. So what's your real name?
Jane Graves. I took the pen name Jane Sullivan when I sold my first book. It was a romantic comedy, and my editor thought "Graves" was too somber for the funny stuff. Now, seven years later and with a different publisher, I'm writing comedy under the name Jane Graves. Think of me as the funny writer with the serious name. Look for everything from here on out to be Graves, not Sullivan.
So what about Brenda from the DeMarco series? When are you going to write her story?
I probably get more mail about this character than any other I've created. And really, why wouldn't she be popular? Who wouldn't want to see a book about a tough, no-nonsense SWAT team sharpshooter who once wondered what one of her enemies' noses would look like shoved up into his sinus cavity? Who skips Redbook and heads straight for Soldier of Fortune? Whose motto is "Never underestimate the power of a pissed-off woman?"
Unfortunately, Brenda won't have her own story. I wrote the DeMarco series with a different publisher, and there won't be any more books. But that isn't to say I won't write characters who are a lot like her in the future. Check out Bernadette Hogan in Hot Wheels and High Heels. She's a secondary character, a smart-ass, take-no-crap bodyguard for a bad-boy millionaire. Brenda would approve. And it's quite possible that Bernie will eventually have her own story.
I loved Jeremy Bridges, the millionaire from Hot Wheels and High Heels. When is his story coming out?
That question is quickly overtaking the one about Brenda for the title of "most asked." If my mail is any indication, readers are really intrigued by Jeremy, even though he was a villain of sorts of Hot Wheels. But getting the right story for him has been a challenge, so Tony McCaffrey's story is next. Tall Tales and Wedding Veils will be released in June 2008, but you may see Jeremy in a future book.
